IndieVille at DreamHack Leipzig: casting a spotlight on independent developers
Leipziger Messe and GAME provide a platform to fledgling businesses and start-ups
Independent developers have created plenty of buzz in recent years with their innovative gaming concepts. To promote the creativity of up-and-coming talent, the IndieVille at DreamHack Leipzig 2017 will once more provide a dedicated area for fledgling game developers and start-ups. This year, the IndieVille will for the first time be sponsored by the German Gaming Industry Association (GAME). Leipziger Messe and GAME will provide the indie scene with the opportunity to present themselves and their exceptional projects in an area specially dedicated to this purpose.
"The indie scene is full of creative talent whose unique ideas provide fresh impetus and growing diversity within gaming. Yet due to a lack of funding, such developers often find it difficult to gain attention. At the IndieVille, we want to bring them the recognition they deserve. As a highlight for gaming enthusiasts from throughout Europe, DreamHack Leipzig provides the perfect framework for this", explains Stefan Marcinek, chairman of GAME.
The association of the German computer and video game industry represents the broad majority of Germany-based companies developing and marketing computer games. Among the more than 110 developers, there are also numerous winners of the German Computer Games Award. Since its foundation in 2004, GAME has consistently worked on behalf of improving the commercial and social framework conditions within the German market.
"With the IndieVille, we are this year once again accentuating the fundamental concept of DreamHack Leipzig as a festival for gamers, by gamers. The fans expect a diverse offering, and that's exactly what we provide with a special feature such as this. We are pleased to have GAME on our side as a partner which knows the German indie scene inside out. Over the coming years, we want to work closely together to further promote the topic of indie developers, in order to make DreamHack Leipzig an even more exciting experience", states Christian Gute, project director at DreamHack Leipzig. Along with game producers, universities with gaming-relevant courses and other institutions can also use the IndieVille to generate attention. The field of virtual reality will also play a role.
