Win the Winter: major Hearthstone tournament at DreamHack Leipzig
This coming January, DreamHack Leipzig will for the first time organise its own major e-sports tournament with “Win the Winter”. The game will be Blizzard’s classic, Hearthstone. Because “Win the Winter” is purely an open tournament, no players will be directly invited. Even professional players will first have to prove themselves in the qualifying rounds, giving every participant a real and identical chance to win the tournament.
The online qualifiers are already in full swing, and the best 32 players are being found from amongst more than 250 competitors. Yet even those who missed the registration deadline will still get a chance to participate: they can qualify at the dedicated Win the Winter area in the DreamExpo directly on site. Here, 32 initial spaces are being offered on a “first-come, first-served” basis. Registration will begin at 11 am on 26 January.
Of the 64 players in total, the best eight will be established on the first day of DreamHack Leipzig. The LAN qualifiers will also take place on this day, in the LAN area during the evening. Here too, 64 players will compete for the top eight spots for the final round. Players can register for the LAN qualifiers via the Win the Winter website, with registration open from 7 pm to 11 pm on 26 January.
The 16 remaining players will be divided into four groups, in which the eight participants for the finals will be established on the second day. On the last day of DreamHack Leipzig, the top eight players will then play for tournament victory in a single elimination bracket.
The following sums of prize money await the top eight players:
1st place: €5,000
2nd place: €2,000
3rd and 4th place: €1,000
5th to 8th place €250
For most of the rounds within the tournament, players will have to bring along their own, hearthstone-compatible end devices; it doesn’t matter if these are tablets, smartphones or laptops.
Win the Winter is produced by TaKeTV Productions.
